ORIGINS OF THE NAME
The name translates to
Iron Fountain, referring to a spring in the ironstone formations there.
HISTORY
Originally laid out and developed on the farm Yzerfontein by a Mr Abraham Katz in 1936, the village has remained a popular holiday resort.
It was only in 1989 that a Local Council was elected and residents became involved with the management of the town.
